Great start, dissapointing end

I bought my car in late 2002 and thought the car was great. I don't drive a lot and therefore my car has a low amount of miles for its age, only 79,000. Early on, the only problems I had were in the power window motors. The motors broke and were expensive to fix. After 5+ years of owning the car it seems like everything is going wrong on the car. The motor in the window has broken again! To make matters worse the intake manifold gasket has blown and the car is leaking coolant into the engine oil!! This is not cheap to fix and seems to be a problem with this car. I would not recommend this car simply because there are a lot of other, more reliable, vehicles available for your dollar. If you go with a Grand Am be prepared to put a lot of money into maintenance.

Great Looks, Horribly Unreliable

I purchased this car and have had nothing but problems since purchasing it. I absolutely love the styling, the looks, the performance - the car is great...and at nearly eight years old, I still think it looks cool. However, I would NEVER recommend buying one - it is ENTIRELY unreliable. In the 74000 mile life of the car, I have spent about $8000 in repair costs - not including regular maintenance, such as tires, oil, and brakes. The water pump has failed twice, the lower intake mainfold has been replaced twice, three of the motors in the windows have been replaced, the alternator has been replaced twice, the battery cables deteriorated and failed, the power steering pump needed replaced, the serpentine belt replaced twice, and most recently, the compressor in the air conditioner. If you are looking for any sort of reliable vehicle this is not it. Through the ownership of this vehicle and a '97 Oldsmobile Cutlass, I have lost faith in General Motors. I HIGHLY DISCOURAGE anyone from purchasing this car.

Among the best!

Bought this car new in August of 1998! Been great! over 233K miles and still going! Only major repairs are Alternator (twice in 200K), Water Pump (Factory went 190K), and Timing chain (233K). The vehicle gets great highway miles 28-34 mpg and keeps on running! Going for half a million!

Great Car

This car with V6 has great acceleration verse gas milage. Handles well, has a lot of nice features. Would recommond to friends. Cheaper than Imports. Looks very sporty, especially with chrome rims. Like the wide stance.

99 Pontiac

I've had this car since 98 and I love it! I bought it brand new. Its so reliable. The price of this car when I bought was perfect despite the fact that I did buy it a year early and at the time they only had 51 '99 grand am's out that year. The only problem I had with this car was my anti freeze leaked into my oil..what do you expect at 110,000 miles? Other than that its a great car and never really had any huge problems with it.
