Pontiac Grand AM GT1
As a teenager searching for my first car, I was only looking for features, performance, and style. The most important thing I overlooked was reliability. I purchased this car used with less than 70,000 miles on it. When I found this car, I was amazed by the list of standard features (on the GT1) that are hard to find on even the most upscale cars such as automatic headlamps, an awesome sound system, leather seats, a power sunroof, and audio controls on the steering wheel. Also, the power driver seat moved into any position, far exceeding the limits of my mom's Chrysler Aspen's power seats, making it very easy to find a comfortable driving position. The car was fast, and stuck to the pavement pretty well under almost any type of driving. With that said, I had numerous problems with the car. First off, the car cranks for a while before it actually turns over. I had a remote start put on the car and I could never use it because the Grand Am likes to crank for so long before it actually starts. Also, at only 70,000 miles, the shocks and struts made all kinds of noise going over small bumps and potholes. I had to have the break pads and rotors replaced twice in only 25,000 miles of driving. The thermostat went out, and there was a short in the battery, leaving me stranded at a gas station. The transmission is anything but smooth, leading me to believe that it was going to go out in a couple months. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a bad first car for a teenager like myself who is looking for nothing more than style and features. This is definitely a sharp looking car, but it lacks reliability. Most people looking for a small car with plenty of features would probably be more satisfied in a Volkswagen Jetta or Mazda3.

I have owned it and had nothing but problems
I bought a 2001 grand am gt with 10,800 miles in 2004 and have put 4 sets of brakes, power steering pump, fan speed switch resistor, intake manifold gasket, and not to mention the junk tires at 13,000 miles. The car eats brake pads quickly and rotors warp rapidly with normal driving conditions. It also needs another intake manifold gasket...a $500 repair and 5th set of brakes. By the way the car only has 67k miles on it now.

Very good car
I bought this car new form the lot and it has been good. As soon as I got it I changed the oil to Mobil 1 and upgraded the air filter to a K&N. The car has ran great ever since. I now have 72,500 miles on the car and going. The only problem I have had is the fuel pump went out at around 70,000 miles. Beside gas, oil and normal maintenance items this car had been terrific, I definitely recommend my Grand Am SE1

STAY AWAY FROM THIS CAR
DO NOT BUY THIS CAR WITH MORE THAN 50K miles on it. I have owned this car for 20K miles and i have put $4,500 of work in it. It is built cheap and not to last. Every 3400 motor with ram air on GT models gets an Intake Leak after about 50K miles!!! $1,200 FIX!!! And Random sensors go out that take a long time to get to... LABOR CHARGES!!!! Horrible car worst ive ever owned. Next cars going to be a Jeep. Can't beat that LIFETIME WARRANTY

The most comfortable car I've owned
When I went to the dealers to trade in my Jeep, I saw this grand am that just stuck out like it was telling me to buy it. So I did, don't get me wrong I love my car, it drives great and it is very comfy. However, it is only 4 years old with 42 k on it. But when I go over a bump the car stalls on me. Just totally shuts off. It doesn't do it all the time. I brought it back to the dealer and they told me that their is nothing wrong with it and that they drove it 7 miles. I told them that it did it twice on a certain bump. I guess they thought i was crazy. When it did it again, I brought it back for the same problem, again they told me nothing was wrong, on the third time back to the dealer for the same problem that is when they told me that all of my relays are bad and it will cost me $700.00 out of cost pocket. I told them that it should be still under the warranty and I shouldn't have to pay for the relays to be fixed when I brought it back twice before. They there for told me that my warranty was only for 30 days and that they will not fix it. I know that they should correct the problem, but they won't. Anyhow, I would recommand this car to one of my friends, but they really should do a car check first before buying it. Just to be on the safe side.

Comfort Class and Affordability
The Pontiac Grand AM is a stylish car that brings with it the reliability and luxury of more expensive models. A fun car to drive it hugs the road like a race car would and can get you quickly home through rush hour traffic or can just be a fun car to ride out or just cruise on a sun. afternoon. It's very attractive and performs well.
