Car is so slow and unreliable

I have had countless "unexplained" problems with this car and am not happy with it. I much rather like having my celica instead. Not to mention that when you are driving next to a semi you almost feel as if you are about to take flight just from the sidewind of it.

Spot is dead

when i bought this car i went driving, we got into an accident with a civic and it got totalled in a 10mph zone. The civic looked like nothing happened. My best friend broke femur, and fractured one rib, even though he wore his seatbelt. The insurance company will only give me 200k for the car. DO NOT BUY

It is what is is

If you enjoy driving / riding in a large luxury SUV, pickup or auto, if you routinely have 3 or more individuals in your vehicle or if you carry large sheets of plywood frequently then this is not the car for you. If, on the other hand, you find that most of the time you drive alone or with only one other person, don't need / want to ride on a cloud and seldom, if ever, use your auto to empty Home Depot then the smart may be the vehicle for you. This is an inexpensive, small, economical, easy to park vehicle that is fun to drive and own. Understand what is is and what it isn't before you buy it and before you trash it. Jim

3,500 miles in and not a single problem

I got my smart in march and boy am I glad I did. The mileage for me is between 35-40mpg average, which I consider to be pretty good since I have a lead foot and run a/c anytime the temp gets over 75. It's been reliable, fun to drive and a great gas saver. The car fills up with 8 gallons! Of course a big plus is styling, you won't feel like a drone in an everyday econobox in the smart. You have all the bells and whistles your checkbook will let you afford, and all the safety features are standard. My wife and I are considering getting another one for her, if we hadn't bought her a new accord this year we'd definitely be a two smart family.

4+ months in a smart

i got the first 2008 fortwo in illinois, first tank of gas was 37mpg and it's only gotten better, last 2 tanks were 53 & 47mpg resply. 53 mpg at 55-60mph, 47 in my normal stop and go commute. i have no idea what the mopes at the EPA were smoking to get 33mpg city and 40mpg highway. it handles well on most roads, and you can take on/off ramps at 50% over posted limits comfortably (go cart comes to mind) it has a low center of gravity, the entire drivetrain, which is most of it's weight is about 1 foot off the ground, the rest of the car is plastic and glass. on it's own, you'd think it was quiet at speed, unless you have a drive in a luxury car before or after driving the smart (i had a mercedes E class for a year before getting the smart) and drove both cars for a month before selling the E. it's a little jerky when shifting at low speeds, more pedal pressure gives smoother accelleration, sometimes it "hunts" between first and second at slow speeds, that can be annoying, the cure is popping it into "manual" and shifting it yourself. i can get a ton of stuff in back, easily fifteen 30-can cases of beer, luggage for two for a weeks' vacation is no problem. with what you save at the pumps, you can rent a pick-up once in a while when you need one. driving a smart, you become an "instant star" people will stare, point, smile, give you "thumbs up", video you with their cell phones... after 4 months, it hasn't stopped! when you're parked or stopped, you will get lots of questions, be prepared! it's safe, it feels big on the inside, looks small on the outside. my older benz felt smaller in the front seat area. drive one once, either you'll love it or not. it never lets you know you're driving a "micro-car" while inside. it's the "future", catch the wave!

Love the Smart Car

I have this car for just over 2 months (2 months and 1 day to be exact) and absolutely love driving it. So far my little smart car racked up 2,600 miles and have not encountered any problems. It's fun to drive. Definitely an attention getter. The car feels nimble and the suspension is tight. Fuel milage is fairly decent at around 38.5 mpg on actual real world driving and not epa est. Handling is fairly accurate. Although on windy days you have to put both hands on the steering wheels for it to go straight. Other than that I love this car. This car may not be for anyone just because it's cute. But FWIW and FTPUP it's GFTV

Cool for around town

I have had my Smart passion coupe for two weeks and I love it. I am not sure it would be a good "only" car, but I have not loved a car this much in years. I am a big man and I fit and it is great to get in and out of. It is a great town car. My first fill up showed 39 MPG. The air-conditioning may be a little underpowered for Texas summers but I think some extra tenting would help a great deal.

Very Sleek and easly on the wallet!

Extra small dosnt mean unsafe. $11,500 gets you into the most fuel efficient gas only car on the market. I have driven this car 3 times and am now in line for it. Very nice. This is not a sports car. This is a city commuter. Its a bit slow to start, but is fast enough for highway use. Rated 35-40mpg, but some have reported 50+mpg. Great for anyone. Im 6ft 350lb and fit nicely with my large wife. There are videos of taller and larger people fitting nicely. The transmission is an automated manual. That means no clutch for stop and go traffic. It also has a sequential shifter, so you dot have to worry about which gear it is in, just up or down. It has a light on the gauge that tells you when to shift for maximum mpg. This is a lovely car, so dont knock it before you try it!
