Wonderful SUV.

Love everything about this car. Technology easy to use. Visibility great and very spacious for a smaller SUV. Great gas mileage and plenty of pickup when merging into traffic.

Atrocious!

This vehicle has been an absolute nightmare. A year and a half into the lease and it has already had substantially more problems than my old Tundra had in EIGHTEEN YEARS. From faulty sensors to infotainment system failure, this vehicle has been completely unreliable and extremely disappointing. My commute to work is barely 10 miles, and I genuinely do not expect this vehicle to make it there and back. On top of that, the transmission and performance is a joke. The 7-speed transmission just does not work. It is clunky, laggy, and will jerk you around like a bad carnival ride. The biggest issue is VW and dealerships not honoring their warranties, as they have refused repairs on the vehicle, regardless of my extra coverage that I purchased. If you offer a warranty, you 100% honor it. There should be no confusion there. I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone, nor anything else Volkswagen has to offer. The only good thing this miserable little rig has done is reassured me that I should never drive a non-Toyota gain. Unbelievable.

Beware

Check engine light kept coming on and not fixed until the 20000 mile service. Defective brake pads that dealer and VW refused to fix under warranty.

I wanted to love it

I fell in love with this car as soon as I drove out and immediately traded my Passat for it. It was beautiful, comfortable, and had get up and go even though mine is 4 cylinder. I currently have 20,000 miles and it has been in for mechanical and electronic errors 5 times that they cannot replicate but are able to pull the codes for. I am told I’m sorry we cannot do anything because we cannot replicate. This vehicle is unreliable and trading in ASAP and not returning to VW. The 2023 Taos has even more “safety” features that were atrocious that couldn’t be turned off.

Disappointing

This car I was so excited to buy when I got rid of my Jetta. Looks amazing but when I bought one it had so many issues. It stayed in the shop for 3 months getting fixed and they couldn’t figure out the issue so it became a lemon. So I was like ok well maybe it was a fluke so I got another one. Now this one is also having trouble. It squeaks in the back like it’s from the 90s vehicle, remote start doesn’t work anymore, transmission leaks ect. I’m not happy with these vehicles.

Great "utility" car that I can take skiing

I'm about a month into my ownership, so I can't comment on reliability. I have driven the Taos on a long road trip and in all situations. I think it hits the mark for being an extremely functional city car and is economical. It's well balanced, frugal on gas and has good enough performance to make it easy to live with. My other car is a VW GTI, which is my fun car. I sold my Golf Sportwagen and lost some driving feel going to the Taos but gained AWD, way more passenger space for family and friends and a more comfortable riding position for when I feel like running about. One of the ironies I've found with the Taos is that I expected it to be my road trip car of choice and that I would make the GTI my urban runabout. I think it will end up being the opposite with the Taos being pretty awesome for grocery getting and short trips. My mpg with AWD has been ~30mpg mixed at 2k miles. I don't do much more than 33mpg on the highway. My city mpg has been pretty good. My GTI gets 31mpg combined. I like the interior styling and glad to have buttons instead of the slider controls. I had a next-gen Golf as a rental in Spain last year, and the infotainment was a nightmare to use while driving. My one gripe about the interior is using soft touch on the front seat door panels and then hard plastic for the dash. I would have preferred all one or the other for a consistent look. The soft touch makes resting the elbow more comfortable, but there's soft touch near the door handle for that. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase. I test drove the Tiguan a few times too, and that was a bit to long, had inferior visibility, has the less user friendly infotainment and squishier suspension. I thought the Tiguan looked good and had a nicer interior, but that was it.

I wanted another VW (number 5). This one is tops.

I have found a fun SUV. It's got pep, room and looks. It's a VW. The car is what I expected and more. It has "Volkswagen" in it. The new "bug" is a treat. I love it.

Sporty, Stylish, and Thoughtfully Designed

Sporty stylish exterior and technology-packed interior with loads of room and extremely comfortable seats. The quiet and smooth ride of the Taos has been thoughtfully designed and engineered.

Don't buy

Day 1 I brought it I heard a rat in the dash board I told the dealership they said their isn't a rat..... my radio would freeze and go black randomly.... then the back up camera would randomly come up saying that it can't be displayed.... after my second oil change the mechanic heard them xxxx thing after 4 months of saying there was...... then I got a check engine on saying something about the emission valve come to find out that it was the valve and the pump needed to be changed at 19000 I asked to check the brakes and shocks they said it was fine.. one month later I heard grinding took it to Firestone and said the one back brake on the passenger side was metal on metal.. took it the dealership they said it was unsafe to drive after 5 days bc of a back order of rotors they informed me that they said it was my fault for excessive braking which makes no noise how do u excessive on one brake on the back side and the rest was fine they charged me the 300 and they covered the rest of 293 by dealership.... now 7 months after having the car their was a knocking noise in engine and burning oil smell... had it transported to the dealership close by to my new home they said the knocking noise was coming back from the gas that's what diagnostic said and while doing my last oil change they found the brake that I just had to changed now on the driver back side is at 2 mm.. so they had to replace the caliber, rotors and brakes again lucky under warranty then they found that my oil is leaking now the gasket needs to be changed now they let me take the car home after 1 month of having it while we wait for a special tool to fix the gasket so my oil will stop leaking....the car violently Jerks sometimes when stop at the light when the ignition shuts off,the lane assist will randomly shut off... I am trying to a buy back thing from volkswagen if they don't buy this jerk back that I have been complaining about since day 1 ppl say sue for lemon law with all the problems... this car is ridiculous....
