Love it!

I've only been driving it for a couple of months now, but I love my Tiguan! It looks great, and it quite zippy. The only downside, these days anyway, is that it wants high-octane fuel.

Love my VW's

I've owned my Tiguan for 8 months now. It's a SE with navigation and panoramic roof. I traded in my 2008 Passat wagon for this vehicle. I have been driving VW's since I was 16 yrs old (wow, that's 40 years!) so I may be biased. I love all the features of my Tiguan...it's really easy for me to get in and out of as I am a amputee. Actually that was the main reason I went from my Passat to a SUV. It was a transition going from from my cushy Passat wagon to the Tiguan. Now, I have to say the only thing I miss is the trunk space. I took off the cover for the trunk in my Tiguan and it's much better. I love the 2.0 turbo...love that I can shift the automatic because I miss my manual shift. I use the auto hold when I'm in traffic..great feature. Even though I am an amputee I have no problems driving my Tiguan without special controls. Awesome vehicle!

Great Car

I've had the 2011 model for one month and I love it. The ride is very comfortable, but handling is still sporty. The 6 spd automatic transmission is very smooth. I have been averaging 26mpg in combined highway/city driving. The turbo charged engine is what separates this car from similar vehicles. There is some wind noise at highway speeds, but other than that I have no negatives for this car.

2011 VW Tiguan

Love my Tiguan! it really feels like an Audi inside. Very high end feel. Every time I get into my car, I feel so proud to be driving such a fantastic car. I receive a lot of looks and compliments!

Great car -- a couple recommendations tho

This was a new car for our daughter (17 yo) after Mom totaled her 2002 Land Cruiser (hit a deer). There was almost NO price flexibility due to supply issues from Japan and impacting VW production schedule. But, aside from a few 'wishes' is a great car (we got the top of the line version). NO Garage Door opener HomeLink? In a $40k+ car?? The radio/nav/climate interface is a bit klugey, but liveable. Uses premium gas--didn't know that, and not a big deal, but it does add to the cost. Very nice ride--very quiet inside--good in the snow (even tho we have had little of that this year, so maybe a bit early to tell until we get 14" or something!), and a HUGE sunroof! Safe, too, a good thing for a teenager, even if she's a great driver. Its always the other guy you need to look out for!

Enjoying the turbo charged engine

The only thing I do not like about my Tiguan is the rear doors always lock and have to be manually opened by the driver or by the power lock. If I jump out of the car quickly, the rear passengers are not able to readily open their doors without manually using the power lock. This is when the childlock feature is turned off! In every other car I have ever driven, all doors unlocked when the car was put in park.

Excellent Near Lux Cute Ute

Bought a 2011 Tiguan SEL Premium to replace a 2008 Highlander Ltd. No longer needed the Highlander for towing or passenger hauling. The Tiguan is easily the most refined in its class - We drove ALL competitors (8 in total) and the Tiguan was easily the winner. Quiet at highway speeds, a great combo of sport and comfort and a lot more personality in the venerable 2.0TSI VW engine than comparable lumps from Honda, Toyota et al. You will pay a slight mileage penalty but we are easily exceeding the rated 19/25 mpg. Mixed driving is 21-22 mpg and road trips 26-27 real world mpg. Great deals WELL below invoice on the 2011s was an influencer as was the desire to get the 2011 vs 2012 equipment. Didn't want to deal with the 19 in wheels on the 2012 (vs 18s on the 2011 SEL). Options on the SEL with Dynaudio and RNS510 Nav are too numerous to mention but cornering lights as well as automatic wipers are favorites so far. Memory seating is a big plus as well. The KESSY keyless is excellent also (no external buttons like most keyless systems). One issue at 3,000 miles as the Throttle Position Sensor failed and required replacement. Having owned several recent German vehicles, there is no denying that electrical gremlins still exist in greater quantities than in Asian vehicles. Truth be told, this is a stop gap vehicle as we are awaiting 2014-2015 for a small diesel SUV (from VW, Audi, Mazda i.e. CX-5, etc). Overall, a big improvement vs the lifeless Highlander (Toyota continues to make cars for people that hate driving - although the new FT-86 brings new hope - thanks to Subaru being involved). The Tiguan is really more in the class of an Acura MDX or even an Audi Q5. Drive one back to back with a RAV4, CR-V or Tucson and I'm pretty sure you'll what to find the extra coin for a Tiguan (plus a little extra, extra for premium gas and a few less mpgs).

The best Choice for Me

I purchases a 2011 Tiguan SEL 4 Motion in June and Have been loving every minute of driving ever since. I first started test driving new SUV's last year, I waited almost a year and could not get the Tiguan out of my mind. When I thought of a new ride I thought of the Tiguan, When I thought of maybe settling and just getting a sedan I could not give up on the Tiguan. So I did not settle, I got a Tiguan and I LOVE it. This SUV has everything I wanted and a few I did not know I wanted but now LOVE (panoramic sunroof, back up camera) I test drove other small SUV and none could compare (for me) to the Tiguan. It has a nice solid smooth ride, easy to handle. Like I said before everything I wanted and more. It is great on the Highway as well as on city streets. The SEL comes equipped with Nav system which is very easy to use (never thought I would use one but I do) The Panoramic sunroof with the sun shade is great on those sunny days when you want the sunroof open but you do not want the sun beating down on you and also keep anything form falling in. The back up camera for parallel parking backing into parking spaces or on a friends LONG and winding driveway is great (never thought I needed it but sure am using it a lot). I never wanted a Big SUV so this fits the bill just big enough good storage (back seats can be moved six inches forward for more cargo space if you need it. It had key-less entry and Push button starter so you can keep your keys in your pocket or gym bag and open and start the car no more juggling shopping bags and looking for my keys. Just put you hand in the door handle and the door opens, Press you foot on the break and push the start and the car starts, hands free Bluetooth for the phone with access to you phone book is a plus, volume buttons on the steering wheel are great as well. Well I that is everything I can think of so, I hope this helps you, and good luck with your search.

Great SUV!

I've had the Tiguan for 6 months and have been nothing but happy with the car. The car drives well, has a great turning radius, MPG is slightly under the rated but I drive over 1k/month for work in a lot of stop and go traffic so not surprising. The windows on this SUV are huge and from my perspective, there is not a single blind spot. The only downside is that on sunny summer days the car gets very hot and takes a little longer to cool down because sun is coming in from every angle. The sun visor that closes off the sun roof has holes in it so it doesn't do a great job keeping the sun out, my only complaint about the car. The interior is what sold me on the car. It looks just as nice as the $$$ SUVs, has a terrific audio/navigation console, the full sunroof is amazing and the backseats are roomy enough for my 6'4" friends (with leg room to spare). The ride is a little harder than my previous cars (VW Passat and Volvo S60) but to be expected with a SUV. I would definitely recommend this car to someone that is in need of a slightly bigger car, but not ready for the full-on 6-seater SUV or mini-van. It is very fun to drive, I feel safe on the road and the sun roof makes even the commute to work a little better.

Love my egg...

I did a bit of research before buying my new Tiguan since I was returning from overseas and couldn't bring either of my two toyotas. I owned Audi's before and knew their 2.0T engine w/6 speed transmisison was a winning combination. So, when the Tiguan was introduced in 09, I dug a little deeper, did the math and basically bought an Audi, dressed as a VW. Same engine/transmission. The rest is cosmetic. And I saved 12K in the process since the new A4 was 37K and my Tiguan came in at 24K. Two years later and all is well. Very peppy, runs like new and both exterior and interior are like new. Oh, did I forget to mention the free maintenance for the first 3 years. Yeah, VW is a bit more expensive but you have to factor in all those extras. So, to keep this short, I fully recommend a Tiguan to anyone who wants a small SUV that gets 28 mpg religiously. Myself, I went for the S model since I didn't think an extra 5K was worth the price for nav/sunroof and and extra inch on the tires. Give it a try, you'll be pleasantly surprised...
