With the optional 4.3-liter, 160-h.p. V-6 under the hood, Chevy`s Baja S- 10 pickup truck packs a punch.
With standard antilock brakes on the rear wheels, it also has the ability to bring all that power under control when needed.
Baja is an off-road/decor package added to the S-10. Its intent is tocome up with an “affordable“ truck for the youth market. The truck we drove listed for $17,198 plus a $400 freight charge, perhaps meaning the youth Chevyis aiming at an MBA or just drafted by the NBA.
The Baja comes with off-road suspension, underbody shields and tow hooks, off-road 15-inch radials, black front and rear brush guards, fog and off-road lamps, light support bar, blackout body treatment and a massive Chevy bowtielogo decal plastered on the hood.
Off-road aluminum wheels, pickup box-mounted spare tire carrier(tremendous space waster) and an endgate net are among the options.
Power brakes are standard, power steering an option. The Baja packageadds $3,208 to the $11,275 base price of the four-wheel-drive S-10 and, inaddition to the items mentioned above, includes sliding rear window, AM-FMstereo with cassette, heavy duty battery, dual outside mirrors, tinted glassand center console.
The 4.3 V-6 runs $255; 4-speed automatic with overdrive, $795; airconditioning, $736; locking differential, $252; and engine oil cooling system,$126.
