Purchasing my new 2018 Cherokee 4x4
December 3, 2018
I owned a 2003 Jeep Liberty for 14 years. Loved my car, but time was beginning to take its toll. I hate new car shopping, but knew I had no choice. From the moment I walked in, Terry Anderson was there to greet me and ask if I had any questions. It was -5 outside on their last selling day of 2017. I did not want to be bouncing from car to car to see what I liked - I had done my research already on the Jeep I wanted to look for.
Mr. Anderson had the car started and warmed and ready before inviting me outside. I knew as soon as sat down that this was what I was looking for. We went for a short drive - just so I could feel the acceleration and handling. Once we returned we went into negotiations mode.
Hate this part....
But it was not as painful as I feared. While he was working on numbers, I saw the same Cherokee with a Towing package was available. So, when Mr. Anderson came back with the offer, I needed to send him back with the new car information. Sorry Terry! :-)
I had a number in mind. Theirs was higher. I came up just a bit, but was firm on it. I did speak to the sales manager, but it wasn't a constant back and forth haggling. They looked over my car and increased the trade in value so I could make the number I wanted.
Afterwards, the paperwork process. Took a bit, but that wasn't a surprise -- seemed a lot of people wanted to buy a car on the last day of the year :-) Purchased the extended warranty and the door-ding/glass repair/keyfob replacement warranty as well. They added in the undercoating as a bonus.
I think I paid a fair price for the car, got a very fair price for the trade in, and the extended warranty was reasonable.
It was not easy leaving my Liberty in the parking lot for the last time, but I am happy with the new 2018 Cherokee and will certainly be bringing my car there for servicing in the future.
