  • A real solid car yet efficient

Bought car with 88k. Always garage kept so very good condition. Changed ALL fluids, plugs, serpentine belt. Now at 104k Mike’s with new set of tires - next size up 235R65 instead of 225R65. Improved ride. Speedo went from 2 mph under at 60 mph to 3 mph over as a result but worth it for the ride - Hancook tires. Very quiet comfy ride. Huge cargo area but poor legroom in rear seat - my only complaint. 24 mpg highway.

  • Incredible car at any price

Bought this cream puff in 2010 with 23,000 geezer miles from an estate sale. Now has 85K (geezer miles) and has been the best car I've ever owned starting with my 1964 Ford Galaxie 500. I replaced one coil and a small inexpensive part for the emissions system and that's it! The secret of these models is that if you can drive at 55-58MPH you will get >31 MPG. I drove from Truckee Calif to Los Angeles via Reno Nv. (~500 miles) on one tank. But even at a steady 70 MPH I routinely get 27+MPG. Luxurious, efficient, reliable and inexpensive used car. My only demerit is the handling for this particular car is not tight and controlled like a Japanese car. It is a bit like pushing a barge and making numerous, tiresome corrections on a constant basis. I am almost used to this though.

  • Most reliable car I have owned. Last of the greats

I never realized what a great car this would be until I owned it. Over 222K and still going strong. Mostly small maintenance needed, a couple of big things as we got over 200K but I wish they still made this platform!

  • One of the best cars I have ever owned

My 2001 Grand Marquis has more than exceeded my expectations! It was my father's car and he sold it to me for cheap, and was in need of something reliable for a change. I finally had to sell my expensive German car as the repairs were putting me in the poor house! It was kind of a shock to say the least to go from an A4 to a Grand Marquis in the handling department... but I was soon hooked anyway. The Grand Marquis is so comfortable, and rides so smoothly. I love this car! And best of all, unlike my A4, I NEVER have any repairs bills. The few I have had, have been regular maintenance stuff (brakes, fuel pump, ignition coils, and tires) and the repair bills are 1/3 as expensive! I bought it at 77k and now it has 154k on it and still going strong. I am so bummed that Mercury is no longer in existence and that they are no longer making the Panther Platform. They are some of the most reliable and sturdy cars ever made and what American Auto Makers did best.

  • Great

Very smooth ride. Good on gas considering the engine. Very spacy for a taller person like myself. Almost 200k and no major mechanical issues. I commute over 100 miles a day and it gets the job done.

  • Merc. Grd Marquis if the dictionary - Perfect car

I bought this car from friend 3 years ago. No idea what a great car. Over 20 mpg all the time from a 17 yrs old car. The V8 leaps when needed and still runs quiet and rides smooth. Great radio w/6 disc auto from trunk. Electronic dash nice. Huge trunk even with full size tire. Excellent vision all around outside. I'm 6' with plenty of room and adjustments. The seats could be used in the house they are so comfortable. Now, the one problem (I've found a lot of vehicles have) is the heater core. BAD locating by engineers; has to remove dash, costing over $800 labor. The core is aluminum and will burst if water freezes in it. Cheapened from copper to alum. STILL the Mercury/Fords are big, roomy, fast, and classy that I hope to keep for a long time!

  • Nice ride

The Gran Marquis is one of the best full size cars! The car has excellent stability , smooth drive. easy to control. it is comfortable and spacious. Also it has huge trunk. The only thing is the Gran Marquis is 8 cylinders and spend a lot of gas :(

  • Old Glory

What can you say about an American classic? And icon, the final body on frame RWD American V8 platform. This car is everything you could expect from a platform designed in 1992, it's huge, the technology is nearly completely absent (features include: power locks, windows, ABS, traction control, and that's about it) on the GS models, stepping up to the LS gets you automatic climate control which is a necessity in the modern age. The car rides excellent, but boy does it float. On the GS the cloth seats are unsupportive and couch-like, they'll leave your back aching after a long drive. Another +1 for the LS with the somewhat more supportive leather seats. Newer generations of the Marquis solve this problem entirely with revised seats. This car will run forever if you take care of it, every pitfall of the old school style and technology of this car (if you consider those pitfalls, I don't) is validated and justified by the reliability of the 4.6L V8 and the Ford 4R70W transmission. My other vehicle is a 2016 Ford Explorer and the drivetrain can't even come close to this old Mercury's refinement. If you're considering this car, just buy it. Maybe buy a newer generation if you want a little bit better emissions/MPG and seat comfort. Also, the gas mileage will be better than the EPA ratings if you keep your foot out of it. Like, 22-25 average kind of better.
