Great SUV, NOISY inside. Get ext. Warranty!
2016 Platinum. Nice SUV, comfortable, very powerful, decent fuel economy, fair build quality, but there are some things to be aware of; the AWD models have a PTU (power transfer unit) which sends power to the rear wheels. It is positioned very close to the exhaust, and the heat generated by the turbochargers literally cooks the gear oil in the PTU, causing it to fail. The unit only holds about a quart of oil, and is NOT serviced or checked, even when you have the vehicle serviced at the dealer. We had trouble with the front camera, and the recirculation actuator on the climate control. If you are considering a used Explorer, I highly recommend buying the best warranty you can! The only complaint I have is the road noise. On new pavement, it's quiet, but on all other roads it's VERY loud inside! - Purchased a Used car

Horrible
We have had so many electrical problems with this car! There are 11 recalls. I have done a ton of research on faulty recalls and typically the electrical problem we have is linked to a recall on 2011-2013 models but ours is doing the same as recall 14s06. Not reliable for a family at All!!! - Purchased a New car

flawed fob
This 2016 ford explorer had the absolutely worse designed fob than any other car. ford blew it. it is extremely difficult to close it after battery replacement. - Purchased a Used car

Steering
My latest is a problem with the steering arm having to be replaced at 40000 miles because of failure of the electric steering control. Evidently it is not protected from breakage under the car and a stone could break it resulting in loss of power steering cost $2300 plus labor - Purchased a Used car

dead at under 100k
Bought this used from a Ford dealership. Rolled over 60k just after purchase. Within first 4 months, the YAW sensor went out. I was told It's something that should never go bad, especially under 100k, well it didn't and Ford refused to cover it. Repair bill was just over $1000. Issue #2 started around 9 months after purchase, no heat. Issue, leak in the water pump which is nestled right in the middle of the engine. I was told it was likely a factory defect, Ford should cover it....Ford would not. Repair estimate was at least $1500 for labor. 3rd and final issue, electric steering failure. Thank goodness it did not happen while I was drivingbut I noticed the steering felt odd, very touchy. The next morning, steering completely dead. If I was driving, I have no idea what I would've done, you literally CANNOT steer at all. Repair estimate roughly $2500+. Again, not typical at under 100k but Ford won't cover. Ford definitely lost a loyal customer after this money pit. - Purchased a Used car

BEST Upgrade I Have Gotten!!
This vehicle is everything iv wanted and MORE! I showed up to the dealership with a price range I wanted to stick by & wanted the ability to get a vehicle that had a 4X4 button to drive through the weather in the winter. I was not only able to get these two things from my purchase but also came with lots of extra bells and whistles - Purchased a Used car
