Hi, I'm Dave Thomas with cars.com and we're here with the 2008 Volvo XC70. XC70 has been completely redesigned for 2008 and it's based off of the S80 sedan, which is a top safety winner.
XC70 is completely restyled and has a big folding hood, a gaping grill, and a really radical rear end. So behind this radically styled rear here with the huge brake lights lies a gigantic cargo area. Most important thing about any cargo area obviously is can it fit a lot of cargo. I tried it out with some golf clubs. You can fit a golf club bag, full-size straight across, and if you really want it to, you could sack four deep. So that's pretty amazing. There's also these really convenient tie downs that pop right out, they slide easily. And when you lock them into place, they don't move at all, really sturdy. The thing we always want to see in a cargo area are rear seats that fold down very easily, and it doesn't get much easier than that. A lot of the wagons and SUV's have a hidden cargo compartment underneath the floor of the cargo area. So does XC70, but this one's spring loaded. So it's nice and it just pops right up and you can easily get in and out to get to your stuff. Besides all the safety features and other family-friendly aspect of the XC70 is a built-in booster seat. And it's really easy to use. You simply pull a handle and it flips up to a stage one which fits certain weights. It says right here, 50 to 80 pounds. So the larger kids is the first stage and the smaller kids it pops up yet again and clicks in for a little bit higher for a smaller sized children. Like the S80, the XC70 interior is really nice. It's definitely a luxury feel to it. Though there's very nice quality, but this light color shows wear this test model only has 3000 miles and we can see scuffs all over the place. So there's definitely a black leather you can get. And the base model doesn't come with leather comes with a very wet suit like fabric, which for families would be great. The XC70 is more of an off-road oriented wagon believe it or not, even though most people use it for the suburbs. I find the ground clearance better for getting in and out of shopping malls than you will forgetting off road. Starting at $37,000 the XC70 might sound like an expensive wagon, but considering it's almost a luxury car, it has a powerful six cylinder engine, plenty of room in the back, all wheel drive and tons of safety features. It's actually not that bad a deal. For additional information on this car or any other go to cars.com and our blog kicking tires.
