(upbeat music) <v Male Voiceover>Cars.com Auto Reviews. Hi, I'm Mike Hanley with cars.com, and I'm here with the Rolls-Royce Phantom extended wheel base model.
It's an ultra luxury sedan that makes other luxury cars like even the Mercedes Benz S-Class look cheap because it starts at half a million dollars almost. So let's take a look at what this model has to offer and why it costs so much. Rolls-Royce calls this model a 2000 half-year because there's been some changes to the outside. They've made this grill one piece now. One of the unique features you can get on the Phantom and other Rolls-Royce models is this powered spirit of ecstasy hood ornament which can motor up and down. And as you come around to the side of the car, you can see it comes with these massive 21" wheels, but even though they're that big, they don't look out of proportion to this car because of the overall size of it. It stretches to about 20' in length. One thing that separates the Phantom from your mainstream luxury models like and S-class is that the car is almost completely hand assembled. It takes about 19 days to build one of these cars. The body is assembled by hand, and the 6.75 liter V-12 engine is hand built. It makes 453 horsepower and 531 lbs speed of torque, and it lets this extended wheel base sedan go from zero to 60 in just under six seconds. And that's pretty quick for a car that weighs about 5,500 lbs. Another thing that separates the Phantom from your everyday luxury car is that the interior can be completely customized to the buyer's taste. From the leather trim you see here, to wood trim on the dash. Now, this model doesn't have wood, it has a piano black finish, but you can get various wood finishes, and they can have inlays in them as well. One thing that may be familiar to you, if you have been looking at regular luxury cars like BMWs, is this control knob here. Rolls-Royce has a system that's similar to BMW's iDrive. This knobs used to control various entertainment features in the car. Now, the back of the extended wheel base model, as you can see, has tons of leg room. And it also has this power door closing feature, so you don't have to reach out and grab the door. It just shuts automatically for you. Extended wheel base models have gained 10" in rear passenger leg room. It's been extended in the wheel base aft of the B-pillar, so it's all for back seat passengers. And, like the rest of the car, you can customize it to your preferences, with options like these curtains here. So, you can basically make it the car you want to have with their bespoke program. The Rolls-Royce Phantom offers an effortless driving experience, as you'd expect from a car costing this much. But what's sure to appeal more to people looking at it, is the exclusivity factor of it. <v Male Voiceover>For more car related news, go to cars.com, or our blog KickingTires.net.
