(upbeat techno music) Hi, I'm Joe Wiesenfelder. And I'm Kelsey Mays from cars.com. <v Joe>We're here with the 2010 Honda Insight. It may be the most affordable hybrid on the market, though pricing isn't ready yet.
Kelsey, I don't know if you've seen it yet. I don't know what you think of the look. <v Kelsey>Well, it does look a lot like the Toyota Prius in profile. It's probably something a lot of people are going to be talking about, Joe. I also see a little bit of Honda's FCX Clarity. I mean, I like the styling. It's kind of driven by this break between the instrument panel down low, and the speedometer up high. <v Kelsey>That's something you see in the Civic right now. <v Joe>It's in the Civic, and I gotta say, one of the reasons that really works here, is the background on this, actually, will change color, depending on how well you're driving. There's blue, there's blue-green, and there's green. The background will be all the way green, if you're driving really efficiently. And the good thing is, it's just kind of at the, you know, fringe of your vision. You're going like this. You're not looking down at stuff all the time. There is a little powerful diagram at the bottom, like a lot of them do, but... What're we talking about, as far as total efficiency on this car? <v Joe>EPA rating is 40 city, 43 highway, which doesn't sound super impressive, because the civic is 40 city, 45 highway. That's a bigger car and a heavier car. So, that's an idea of the 2010 Insight. We compared it to the 2009 Prius. That's the one everyone knows. Next, we'll go take a look at the 2010 Prius, just introduced, and how that compares to this one. And Joe, now we're here with the redesigned 2010 Toyota Prius. It's about the same size as the previous generation Prius, kind of the same silhouette. How do you think it looks? <v Joe>I think it looks better. I mean, the previous one, 2009, is a little dorky, I think, in the front. This is kind of cooler. Looks like it sits lower. Yeah, certainly a different flavor of a cabin than the inside. I have a little bit more room to spread out here, actually, than I felt like I did in the inside. Headroom isn't outstanding, but I still have enough. But it's also- It's definitely more kind of space age, and I think the previous Prius was that way, too. Except, it didn't have this one piece panel that came down. <v Kelsey>The material seems to be a little bit better than in the inside. There's kind of a nice sort of texture- <v Joe>The finish is nice. The texture's good, it's not too glossy. How's leg room and head room for you? This is actually very good. I mean, it's considerably bigger. It feels like there's more than in the previous generation Prius. Leg room's great. I mean, I don't how- This is back all the way- I mean, one big difference is this feels a lot wider in the inside. And if you put like a baby seat in the middle here... I don't even know if like one adult, well maybe certainly one, but not two adults would wanna be back here. <v Kelsey>Well, Toyota's targeting about 50 miles per gallon combined city highway right now. That is significantly better. So, in the city it would be like above 50. <v Kelsey>Yeah, I mean, they're saying this is gonna be the most fuel efficient mainstream car on the market. I gotta tell ya, I mean, even if it costs more, it is bigger. And that's a big, big difference from the EPA rating the Insight has, which is 40, 43, so... I mean, if you're looking for a winner on those grounds, this is it, but it depends on where this is priced out and where the Insight is. <v Announcer>For additional information on this car, or any other, go to cars.com and our blog, KickingTires.
