(upbeat rock music) Hi, I'm Kelsey Mays for cars.com. We're here at the 2014 New York International Auto Show. Looking at Acura's new TLX. It replaces the TL and the TSX in Acura's lineup, which means it's now the middle child to rule them all.
Let's take it through it. No surprise. The TLX looks a lot like the TLX prototype shown at the Detroit Auto Show, earlier this year. Acura's familiar Shield Grill here stretches into what they Jewel Eye LED Headlights. Yet get along the side, Acura says the TLX is about four inches shorter than the TL, but wheelbase remains the same. So most of that reduction came off the front and rear overhangs. You getting back here, exposed tailpipes are becoming an endangered species at Honda and Acura. That's kind of the case here. I wish they'd bring them back. Kind of looks like every other Acura. Familiar stuff on the inside here, two screens here. This is what Acura does in the RLX their flagships at end. The bottom one is seven inches. It controls Acuralink, which is accurate as cloud-based kind of connected car infotainment system. There's also Siri Eyes Free capability here, if you have a compatible smartphone. Overall cabin materials, they're decent. They live up to the standards that you'd expect in cars like the Lexus ES stuff like that. There's soft touch stuff where your arms and your elbows fallen along the dashboard as well. Generally uniform look here, if very familiar to Acura enthusiasts. The backseat on a lot of sports sedans can range from pretty confined to fairly generous. The TLX, maybe a little bit more on the confined side of things. Seat cushions could be a little longer here for better thigh support and the seat sits pretty low to the floor, yet it doesn't have a lot of extra headroom here. So my knees are kind of dangling up in the air. Leg room, okay. It's adequate, I guess. I'm six feet tall and that's where I would sit to drive. Now, cabin materials remain consistent with those upfront and there is a new 60-40 split folding rear seat. Acura says the old TL did not have that. The old TL also had a little bit of a small trunk for its size. Acura doesn't have exact specifications on this trunk, but it does say that the trunk is a little bit bigger. The front wheel drive TLX has a four cylinder or a V six, both are direct injection engines, horsepower ranges from 206 all the way up to 290. The V6 offers all wheel drive and there are eight and nine speed automatic transmissions. EPA gas mileage combined ranges from 25 all the way up to 28 miles per gallon. Stay tuned for our driving impressions, closer to the cars on sale date in late 2014. (engine running)
