(upbeat music) (brakes squeaking) Hi, I'm Kelsey Mays for Cars.com. This is America's best-selling sedan. The Toyota Camry. It's been updated.
Now I know that telling you the Camry's been updated is like saying the big Mac has new special sauce, but these changes are fairly significant. And we're here at the 2014 New York International Auto Show. So let's take a look at what Toyota cooked up. Toyota says the new Camry has nearly 2000 new parts. In fact, only the roof carries over. It says you get up to the front. The headlights that have LED daytime running lights, full LED headlights are optional. S E and new X S E trims have a unique bumper treatment. I gotta say it looks a little bit like Lexus' spindle grill. Makes sense, Lexus is Toyota's luxury division. Very close here. Especially in back you can see a lot of kind of Lexus implements here. You could put an L badge on this and people might not know the difference. The seventh generation Camry has been around since the fall of 2011. And cabin quality has always been a little bit inconsistent. Good in some areas, kind of bad in certain other areas, hard to tell if that's really improved here. Now Toyota says it has the best interior quality in the segment. This is a very prototype car here at the auto show. And so the quality of materials grading on the dashboard and doors and stuff, all of that is very subject to change by the time the Camry actually hits dealerships. But we do see a few things. Simplified center stack here along the buttons, larger buttons to kind of stick out more. They fall to hand a little bit easier, simplified buttons here along the center screen here. There's a new wireless charging area here for compatible smartphones. It goes in this area here ahead of the gear shift, this little kind of cubby here, it's alongside a lot of portals. If you need to charge things via USB. You still see kind of the faux dashboard stitching up here. It gives it kind of a bit of a layered look. There's a new 4.2 inch screen here between the gauges and some of that dash stitching now extends along the doors, the front doors and the rear doors. Adds a little more of an upscale vibe. The Camry like before it will come with a four cylinder or a V6 engine, as well as a four cylinder gas electric hybrid engine. Toyota has also said it's upgraded the chassis, the suspension, the steering, even more insulation. You're all in the name of improved drivability. The X S E grade also has its own unique suspension and steering tuning. We also hope Toyota upgraded the tires which were kind of a traction challenge weak link in the outgoing Camry. We'll know all of that and more closer to the cars on sale date in fall 2014. (car engine revving)
