About the video

Seen at the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Audi's all-new 2017 A4 looks like each chiseled line of its front styling is laser cut.

Transcript

Like a lot of Audi redesigns, the new A4 is a subtle evolution on the brand's smallish sports sedan, but there's more than meets the eye. Like a lot of recent Audis, the new A4 takes on a little bit more of a technical appearance here.
It's slightly more sophisticated. Things like harder corners here around the six-sided grill and even the headlights themselves. Overall an evolution versus the old A4 but a few hundred pounds lighter, Audi says, thanks to a lot more aluminum. Big changes up front where the A4 loses its predecessor's kind of shelf-like dashboard for a more stacked design here. Now there's a center sort of tablet-like display in the middle part of the dashboard. It's joined by Audi's available virtual cockpit, which we've seen in other cars like the TT and the Q7. In addition to all that technology, there's a nice low center tunnel here that clears up a lot of space. The room continues in back where there's actually a really big backseat in this new A4. I'm six feet tall. That's where I sit to drive. Check out all this leg room I have leftover. Decent headroom too. And a nice high seating position. Sports sedans, not really known for their backseat space, the A4 kind of rewrites that story. As German luxury cars go, the A4 is pretty generous with standard features, things like a sunroof, a backup camera, automatic emergency forward braking. Those are all standard features, but the price at a little over $38,000 including destination is up about $1,500 versus the last A4. How will shoppers respond? We'll find out once the A4 goes on sale this spring.
