We're here at the 2016 Los Angeles auto show to check out the latest from Honda to add to the Civic family. Now, this is a 2017 Honda Civic Si prototype.
This is our first look at the Si, and it's one that we're really excited for because the Si has always represented accessible performance for Honda, and this one should be no different. Now, everything that you see here won't make it onto the final version of the car. The rear, the side arrow and the front arrow, and the wheels are all from Honda's factory performance division, so we don't know if they'll make it onto the standard Si. We were able to confirm two details about the exterior. This rear spoiler, and this very cool center mounted low exhaust here will make it onto the final version of the Si. So look out for that on sedan and coupe versions. Now on the inside, there aren't too many changes besides some Si badging and red stitching to signify that this is a performance model, but that's fine. The standard interiors that you find on the sedan and coupe are more than adequate. Well, mechanical details are a little bit scarce from Honda, but we were able to confirm a few details. The only available transmission will be a short throw six-speed manual, and that's a big improvement over the manual that you'll find in the standard sedan, coupe and hatchback right now. The throws on that one are a little long, so tightening that up will make the performance feel much cleaner than it currently does on the Civic. In the engine bay, we're gonna find a 1.5 liter turbocharged four-cylinder. Now that's the same engine that you'd find in the other models of the Civic, but it's going to have more power and produce more torque. Those numbers though, Honda, they're not saying it. Honda's also not saying things like EBS estimated fuel economy or pricing. They did say that pricing won't jump up too high, so it's still gonna be affordable for performance. Although details are scarce right now on the Si, we are looking forward to learning more about it. And for more details on this, as well as the rest of the Los Angeles auto show, be sure to check out cars.com.
