(engine starting) (engine idling) Mercedes-Benz has a habit of streamlining the styling on it's C, E and S-Class sedans to look very similar to one another.
The latecomer to the party is the middle child, the E-Class, but that's no longer the case with this re-design. Now the E-Class is going to be hard to distinguish at a glance, from either the C-Class or the S-Class. Looks a lot like the C-Class actually, up front here in terms of most of the elements from the grill to the headlights, a little bit closer to the S-Class in terms of size than its predecessor, having grown by about two inches bumper to bumper. The interior is a lot more like the S-Class with this large shelf that kind of dominates the dashboard, sits over both these center gauges, the virtual gauges and the center display. Now I went and sat back to back in a C-Class. Came back here, doesn't seem like there's a tonne more leg room or sort of lateral space, but there does seem to be more head room in the E-Class. Some cool kind of layering techniques going on here in terms of interior styling. This center portion here with wood trim is sort of raised up off the dashboard. You can see some lighting elements under it, and these two screens here, they kind of operate as a continuous band of information here, and they're sort of raised a little bit off the dashboard itself. Kind of cool as well. If the new E-Class is anything as impressive as the redesigned C-Class Mercedes, could definitely have a winner on his hand. But we'll have to drive it to know more. Stay tuned. The new E-Class goes on sale this summer.
