Somewhere along the line to Subcompact SUVs, a few auto makers tried to pass off a little more than tall hatchbacks as the sort of go anywhere, crossovery things and the latest example is what you see here, the all new Nissan Kicks.
Now the Kicks shares its platform with the Nissan Versa sub-compact and it doesn't offer all wheel drive, which does call into question any of its sort of SUV-ish credentials, but either way, it's a small one, smaller than Nissan's Rogue Sport by about three inches, but about six inches longer than the Juke, Nissan's really tiny SUV, and certainly more conventional looking here. You've got, Nissan's kind of plunging V motion grill here, a little bit of a kink here in these headlights to give them something of a boomerang shape. Certainly more of that going around in back. Interesting interior here, there's a very horizontal dashboard with kind of a nice ribbon of stitched material here in this car at the auto so, a standard seven inch screen with actual knobs, nothing capacitive touch about it and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available. Now Nissan says upper trim levels can have what it calls prima-tex. This is kind of a leather like material actually very convincing. It'll seem like leather for most people, even though it's technically vinyl. Probably easy to clean, but you know, if your friend owned a Kicks and lent it to you and you ate some children's puffed corn cereal and spilled it and then sent them maybe a half dozen photos of it, he might still tell you that your six Kicks picks in his Kicks really ticks him off. Now the Kicks should have a certain value potential here. Starting price south of $19,000 with an automatic transmission. Nissan says though, it's not quite clear if that includes destination or not. Another important standard feature, automatic emergency braking with forward collision warning. Every Kicks will have that and the pint size four cylinder engine makes an estimated 33 miles per gallon combined, according to Nissan. Stay tuned for a lot more information. The new Kicks goes on sale in June of 2018.
