We're very familiar with the Hyundai Palisade at Cars.com. We actually named it our Best of 2020 winner and owned it for a year. And in fact, our Production team still uses it as a workhorse today.
We did have a slightly frustrating ownership experience with some interior smell issues, but those seem to have been fixed with later iterations. And now for 2023, Hyundai has updated the Palisade with some exterior changes as well as some interior technology improvements. Let's check it out. Exterior changes to the Palisade include a new bigger, bolder grille design. It's a little bit jarring; kinda looks like someone you know got veneers without telling you, but it's not as angular as a lot of Hyundai's other designs. There's also a new LED headlight and LED foglight look here. And then along the sides, the Calligraphy gets a new set of 20-inch multispoke wheels. In back, the changes are even more minor. It's mostly just a new rear bumper design. Everything else looks pretty familiar. Our Palisade lost an "A" in a harsh Chicago winter, but this one still has both of them. Inside the Palisade, still very familiar but there are some more significant upgrades. You get a redesigned steering wheel. The instrument panel has a new design. You get a new 12-inch touchscreen display. It has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Unfortunately, those are still wired only. Speaking of wired, most of the ports, USB ports here, are now USB-C instead of USB-A for improved charging capability. The wireless device charging here has also been upgraded. It's now 15 watts, up from 5. The design is overall very much the same, same sort of physical control layout here with the angled panel. You get some thinner air vents. This is the Calligraphy model, so you get very nice leather, wood. High quality all around. You do get, also, a new ergo driver's seat for improved driver comfort. And Hyundai has also added their first rearview camera mirror system. So if the traditional mirror is obscured, you know, you can flip that and then you get a digital view of what's behind you. And also for all-wheel-drive models, there's a new tow mode to improve towing performance. But overall, if you've been in a Palisade before, this isn't really gonna shock you. Second-row passenger room and third-row passenger room are about the same, but it's a slightly nicer place to be and you also get these USB-C ports here. And Hyundai has updated the headrest to a wing-out design for more passenger comfort. And in a Hyundai first, the third row has heated seats, as well. The powertrain for the 2023 Palisade remains unchanged. So it's still a 3.8-liter V-6 making 291 horsepower and that's paired to an eight-speed automatic. You can get it in either front- or all-wheel-drive. Also not on stage today is a new, rugged-looking XRT trim of the Palisade, which we've also seen in the Tucson and Santa Fe. In a very competitive class, the Palisade has been losing headlines to its Kia cousin, the Telluride. But with these upgrades, it's still a very competitive and very strong choice. It goes on sale this summer, and we should have pricing information closer to that time. For more on the Palisade and the 2022 New York International Auto Show, check out Cars.com.
