2024 Chevrolet Trax: Up Close —Cars.com
Transcript
When the Chevrolet Trailblazer small SUV debuted a few years ago, we wondered what the future held for the brand's Trax subcompact model. Well, now we know this is the redesign 2024 version and it's larger than its predecessor.
It gets a new powertrain and it's also has an all new design inside and out. Let's take a closer look at some of the most significant changes. The new Trax is a significantly bigger vehicle than the outgoing model. It's 11 inches longer and that makes it longer than the Trailblazer actually. It's also two inches wider but is four inches lower, giving it a sleeker appearance. The wheel base is six inches longer and with a wider track, Chevrolet says that helps improve ride and handling. You can see similarities with the Chevrolet Blazer mid-size SUV in the Trax's all new exterior design. All versions of the Trax have LED daytime running lights above the headlights, just like the Blazer in a wide grill that on this 2RS trim levels is finished in a black chrome. And around the rear of the vehicle, the Trax has a forward swept lift gate that combined with the lower roof line really increases the sportiness of the design. In the cabin you can really see how Chevrolet has focused on upgrading the Trax's technology. All versions now have an eight inch touchscreen but if you get a higher trim level like this RS version you get an 11 inch center touchscreen multimedia system in an eight inch digital instrument panel. All versions of the Trax also have wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Connectivity and higher trims get a wireless charging pad too. The Trax also gets a number of important active safety features with its redesign. Standard features include Ford Collision Warning with Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Assist and Automatic High Beam Headlights. And available features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Warning with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and a Rear Parking Assist feature. The Trax is exercise is put to good use in the rear of the cabin where rear passengers get three inches of extra leg room. And it's actually pretty comfortable back here. I'm around six feet tall and I have enough leg room. The my lower part of my leg is touching the back of the front seat where I would sit but it's still comfortable. And there's also enough head room despite the shorter roof line of the vehicle. The new Trax is powered by 137 Horsepower Turbo Charge 1.2 liter three cylinder engine, that works with a six speed automatic transmission. It's a front wheel drive only vehicle. And if you want all wheel drive in this size of vehicle and Chevrolet's lineup, you have to step up to the Trailblazer model. EPA fuel economy is not yet available for it. The 2024 Trax goes on sale in Spring 2023 with a starting price of around $21,500 for a base LS trim. But at the higher end of the price spectrum, it's around $25,000 for an active model like this one or the 2RS here. The current Trax is already one of the least expensive SUVs you can buy. But even though the redesigned version is larger and has more tech and safety features than its predecessor it's price is actually lower than that model. And that's not something you see with every redesign. And it raises the Trax's value for the money even more.
