Are you sick of SUVs just like I am, but you still need a place to put all your junk when you're driving around? Please direct your attention to the new 2026 Kia K4 Hatch. Oh yes, I love it, I love the way it looks.
And if you understand what the standard K4 sedan is all about, understanding the hatch is a cinch because this is mechanically mostly unchanged from the standard sedan. And well, I said mostly because there's a little bit change in the passenger space, but for the most part, same vehicle. Though it's a whopping 11 inches shorter than the sedan, the only real dimensional change is some extra head room for the rear passengers and the cargo capacity, which goes up, up, up to 22.2 cubic feet with the seats up and 59.3 cubic feet with the seats down. Compare that to 14.6 cubes in the four door. Most everything else, other than that spectacular new sparkling yellow paint is right where you left it on the sedan. This means that you've got the same powertrain choices, starting with the base, two liter natural aspirated, four cylinder and continuously variable transmission, a combo good for 147 horsepower and 132 pounds feet to torque. However, you are probably like me and you want the upgraded engine, which is a 1.6 liter turbocharge four cylinder that boosts all that power to 190 horsepower and 195 pounds feet of torque. Now, more power is almost always more better but in this case, this also makes exclusive use of the normal, regular, eight speed automatic transmission, which is definitely a good thing. Sweet and simple, you gotta love a good hatch. I, for one, cannot wait to cram this thing full of crap and huck it down my nearest back road. But let's talk pricing and availability. So we kind of know a, kind of when the K4 hatch goes on sale, Kia says that's gonna be late 2025. Pricing-wise, that has not been made available yet, but you can be sure that it is gonna be very similar to the K4 sedan's pricing structure. Hatches are almost usually more expensive, so you can kind of plan for that. We're gonna keep an eye out for harder details on availability and pricing, and when we do find out, you can read all about it at cars.com/news.
