The 2018 Ford Mustang is a lot faster than the old one. The benchmark we set with the 2016 model manual transmission was zero to 60 in 4.7 seconds, a quarter mile 13.2 seconds.
But now for 2018, there's 460 horsepower instead of 435, there are 10 speeds in this automatic transmission versus six of the last one. We've got stickier Michelin tires in this performance pack model, and there is a drag strip oriented drag mode. And we're gonna put that to the test and see if we can hit Ford's claim that it does zero to 60 in under four seconds. (car engine revving) So the goal what's under four seconds, zero to 60, and we did it in 3.99, just by that much. And personally, I wanted to see the car run sub 12 seconds in the quarter mile and we did 11.98 at 119 miles an hour. The takeaway though is this 10 speed automatic transmission is fine. It helps with car get down the track real easy, real quick, and the transmission combined with these Michelin tires that have nearly as much grip as a drag radial, I had zero drama at the drag strip no wheels spin in wide open throttle launches made it an effortless experience. Those numbers came on the third run of the day.
