<v Mike>These days, if you took automakers at their word, you'd think that luxury was all about how much fancy technology you can cram inside a car. <v Joe>I'm still waiting for the touchscreen steering wheel.
Or touchscreen brakes? They wouldn't do that. I hope not. But for us, luxury isn't about having the biggest touchscreen or the most gadgets. It's about marrying form and function to deliver an exceptional, comfortable, well-rounded driving experience that makes every trip feel worth it. This year's winner for Best Luxury Car of the Year does all that and then some. Newly redesigned and looking better than ever, our award for Best Luxury Car of 2023 goes to the Genesis G90. The G90 has been in the Genesis lineup since 2017, but with the redesigned and dramatic exterior, an upgraded cabin, and sensible but very impressive technology, the G90 finally feels like the flagship luxury vehicle it was always meant to be. And what's more, Genesis really seemed to understand what makes a full-size luxury sedan feel luxurious. The cabin is nearly silent and regally outfitted. Wood accents, subtle ambient lighting and even a mood curator, which combines ambient sounds, an interior fragrance system and built-in massaging seats to turn a drive into a spa-like experience. And don't worry, the G90 delivers powerful technology, too. But rather than throw a Star Trek-like panel across the dash and call it a day, the G90 screens are seamlessly integrated into the cabin. Both front and back rows get clear digital menus, and tactile controls make using that technology painless. The base model's 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine, delivers quick acceleration and response, while an upgraded version of the drivetrain adds a mild-hybrid system and makes 409 horsepower. Genesis also remembered that the primary mission of a large luxury sedan is to coddle occupants with world-class quietness and comfort. Not all buyers want sports sedan agility, and the G90 favors cushiness over cornering prowess. And the exterior styling is no joke. The G90 has a new stately stance, beautiful thin LED headlamps and a bold signature Genesis diamond grille that makes a standout impression. When it comes to price, the G90 is no small investment, with the top trim coming in at nearly $100,000, making it the most expensive Genesis yet. And that price increase brings the new G90 into the same territory as the Audi A8 and BMW 7 Series that were still considerably less expensive than Mercedes-Benz S-Class. We think the new G90 is worth the money. And for that, we're thrilled to name the Genesis G90 the Cars.com Best Luxury Car of 2023.
