If you want to keep your kids safe in the car, there may be one critical step that you've forgotten, but it's important that you do it.
Have you registered your child's car seat? [Jennifer] A study by Safe Kids Worldwide found that only 42% of families fill out and return the car seat registration card that's found with every new car seat. Registering your car seat allows the manufacturer to contact you directly when there's a recall and send any needed items for repair. If you forgot or lost the registration card, even if you've been using your car seat for a few years, there are easy steps you can take to make sure your child is riding safely. [Jennifer] The first? Register their car seat on the car seat manufacturer's website. You'll need the car seat's model number and manufacture date, both of which can be found on a label pasted on the car seat. Secondly, check your car seat for recalls. Armed with the manufacturer name, the model number, and manufacturer date, parents can check on their car seat at safercar.gov. It might not seem like much, but it can make all the difference. Register your car seat today. For cars.com, I'm Jennifer Newman.
