Hoping your car will be a date magnet? You might find out that it's actually a ticket magnet. Not the kind of attention you were trying to attract. A new study by insurance.com examined claims and traffic violations for more than 300 models.
And then ranked the top 20 most ticketed cars. What's the biggest ticket magnet of them all? The Lexus ES 300. Fully a third of the luxury sedan and its hybrid versions on the road have been hit with traffic citations. You might think the list is all luxury nameplates. Let's face it, it always seems to be some dude in a BMW three series cutting you off in traffic. But you'd be mistaken. Only about a fifth of the top 20 most ticketed cars came from luxury brands. The Nissan 350Z, Dodge Charger, Volkswagen Jetta and Chevrolet Monte Carlo rounded out the top five. Which cars avoid tickets the best? The Buick Encore, the Lexus IS350, the Acura ILX and the Cadillac ATS lead that list. And that guy in the three series you're always trying to communicate with via hand gestures, he's the ninth least ticketed driver on the road. It's important to remember that despite what you might think, insurance companies pay far more attention to claims they have to pay out than to tickets when setting rates. So drive safely out there. And cut my man in the three series some slack. For cars.com, I'm Matt Schmitts.
