Crossover SUVs have made a big splash, but when it comes to overall utility, nothing beats the tried and true minivan.
Which one is the best one on the market today? We tested five well-equipped contenders as part of our ultimate minivan challenge to find out. A lot of minivan shoppers want features, cargo space, and car-like ride and handling. Our top finishers offered all of that and more. Including tons of space for kids, reclining second-row captain's chairs and a vastly improved driving experience compared to the minivans of yore. Our winner, the completely redesigned, and overhauled 2015 Kia Sedona. It combines refined acceleration and ride quality with an upscale feature-loaded cabin and first-class lounge seats for the second row. In second place came the refresh Toyota Sienna, which offers lots of space, straightforward controls, and available all-wheel drive, but remains very noisy. In third place is the Honda Odyssey, which has comfortable and roomy seats, but a somewhat busy ride. The Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country are the bottom two. Both minivans have a lot of value, but outdated multimedia systems, poor driving refinement, and spotty crash tests. Our experts tested the minivans in back-to-back handling drives. A 135-mile gas mileage loop and specific evaluations for rear entertainment systems, car seat compatibility, and third-row access. A sixth minivan, The Nissan Quest, is also on the market, but Nissan declined to participate in the challenge. For cars.com, I'm Kelsey Mays.
