About the video

Road Test Editor Brian Normile traveled to Detroit to get a sneak peek at the new 2024 Buick Envision — sort of. He wasn’t able to see or sit inside the new Envision at the time, so you’re going to have to take some of this on faith.

I'm here in Detroit getting my first look at the all new 2024 Buick Envision, which gets some upgraded exterior styling, front and rear, upgraded interior technology and a price bump to boot. Let's check it out.
Upfront, you get a new grill, new headlights. The whole look is inspired by that beautiful Wildcat EV concept that we saw a few years ago. And then along the sides, wheel sizes vary from 18 inches on the base preferred model to 20 inches on both the Sport Touring, and this, Avenir, the top trim level. And you come along the side, it's still nice and sculpted. In back, you get more updated lighting elements that continue that checkmark motif. The whole look is revised. As well, you get another example of Buick's new badging design. And the whole look overall is very premium. I could see this competing against an Acura RDX or a Lexus NX, which is good because it's priced to compete with those. Under the hood, every new Envision model gets a carryover powertrain. It's a two liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, making 228 horsepower and 253 pounds-feet of torque. That's paired to a nine speed automatic transmission, which is not our favorite number of speeds, but we'll have to wait and see how that drives. New for 2024, all Envision models come standard with all wheel drive. Previously, it was a front wheel drive model with all wheel drive optional. Unfortunately, I couldn't see or sit inside the new Envision, so I can't actually confirm yet whether or not the interior, where most of the changes occurred lives up to the rest of the vehicle's premium promise after initially promising that this new Envision would gain Super Cruise hands-free driving, Buick has eliminated that at least for this model year, which is pretty disappointing, but more changes do seem to be premium, but we'll have to wait and see. A new 30-inch display is standard and encompasses both a digital instrument panel and a center touchscreen, and from photos and footage it sure looks good. I've experienced similar systems in other GM vehicles and I'm confident that this will look and feel just as premium as the rest of the Envision, but again, we'll have to wait and see until we can actually experience it and be sure. We'll also have to wait and see how upscale the rest of the interior is. Images and footage of the ST's interior have a rich looking maroon upholstery and trim, but also show what may be a fair amount of hard plastic and lower quality materials. Now, those elements aren't unique to SUVs in this class, but we can't be sure how the Envision compares until we actually get a chance to sit in it. Buick says the 2024 Envision should arrive in dealerships this summer with prices starting at a little over $37,000 for the base model, going up to over $48,000 for this, the loaded Avenir.
