(engine starting) Mercedes turned a dud into a stud with the redesigned 2015 C-class, a car that has class-leading cabin materials, an intuitive, yet high-tech multimedia system and a pair of punchy, yet fuel-efficient engines.
The innovation in the new C-class impressed us so much here at cars.com that our editors gave the car our highest annual award, cars.com's Best of 2015. We decided to put our money where our mouth is and purchase a 2015 C-class, but our offices are here in Chicago where the winters can be kind of nasty. So we went with an all-wheel-drive C300 Formatic that has Mercedes' two-liter, 241-horsepower, turbo four-cylinder, good for punchy acceleration, yet a pretty good EPA, 27 miles per gallon combined. Now, around dealerships here in Chicago, just about every single C-class on sale had at least the premium package that requires heated seats. It also has things like burn master audio, LED lights, and keyless access with push button start. A number of C-class sedans on sale had sport or luxury packages, but we decided we didn't need either one. That left us with this model right here, a black C300 with the heated seats, the premium package, a blind spot warning system and a multimedia package which comes with a larger center screen, a navigation system, and a backup camera. We'll have this car throughout 2015. How does the drivability hold up? What kind of gas mileage do we get? Are there any reliability or maintenance issues that pop up? All of that and a lot more we'll report to you, so stay tuned to cars.com all year long. (car trunk closing)
