Video: Which 2024 3-Row SUV Has the Most Cargo Room?

But if you're shopping for a three-row SUV for your family, it can be difficult to compare cargo space from just looking at the specs alone because not all car makers measure cargo areas the same way. That's why we take the time to measure the space behind the second and third rows and under the cargo floor ourselves, so you can compare those numbers across brands. So how much cargo space did the SUVs and our tests have? Here's what we found. The all new 2024 Grand Highlander and redesigned 2024 Atlas had the most cargo space of the seven SUVs in our test, with the Atlas having the most space behind the second row with 28.5 cubic feet and the Grand Highlander having the most cargo room behind the third row with 14.5 cubic feet. So how did these SUVs come out on top? For the Atlas, the height of its cargo area was a key factor. It's 20-inch tall second-row backrests are three inches taller than those in the next closest Grand Highlander and Hyundai Palisade. We only measure to the top of the seat backs in vehicles with open cargo areas because unrestrained luggage can turn into a safety concern in an accident. For the Grand Highlander, its test leading cargo room behind the third row came from a combination of having the most cargo area depth and width, as well as being tied with the Atlas for cargo area height. But what else stood out with these SUVs' cargo areas? Under floor storage for one, with the Kia Telluride and Honda Pilot both having large storage spaces under the rear most part of the cargo floor. The Pilot's underfloor storage area is also designed to hold the middle second row seat when it's not needed, which is pretty smart.
