CARS.COM

Vehicles Affected: Approximately 250 model-year 2017 Ford Explorer SUVs, Taurus sedans, and Police Interceptor SUVs and sedans

The Problem: The steering gear heat shield fasteners may corrode, allowing the heat shield to detach; this could cause the steering gear to overheat, increasing the steering effort required, especially at lower speeds, and increasing the risk of a crash.

The Fix: Dealers will inspect and replace the heat shield fasteners, as necessary, for free.

What Owners Should Do: Ford will begin notifying owners this month. Owners can call the automaker at 866-436-7332, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
