2019 Kia Forte Video: Like Busy Styling? May the Forte Be With You

Compact sedans are all about value and, for the most part, so are brands like Kia. So, let’s talk about what Kia cooked up here in the 2019 redesign of its compact sedan, the Forte. Now, if the Forte looks a little bigger, that’s because it is. It’s about 3 inches longer than before and nearly an inch wider; those are significant dimensional increases among compact cars.

There’s also a lot of new styling elements. First of all, the light strip goes all the way across, kind of joining the taillights; below it, there’s more lights with some reflectors that sit within a pod; around front, there’s another pod on each side of the bumper, along with additional lights and reflectors.
In the headlights, the four reflectors sort of look like the wings on a “Star Wars” X-Wing fighter. There’s a lot going on, perhaps a little too busy depending on your taste — it may be a little Jar Jar’ing for some but if it works for you, may the Forte be with you.

A fairly straightforward interior features a horizontal, low-set dashboard with a tabletlike display that sits above the center controls; that’s the kind of layout you’re seeing in a lot of cars in recent redesigns nowadays. And it’s all pretty easy to use from a Kia standpoint: physical volume and tuning knobs, big climate controls, plenty of storage space to throw your stuff in — a decent amount of room.
It doesn’t seem like a huge forward or a step back in terms of quality versus the prior-generation Forte — but that wasn’t really a problem, and this seems fairly competitive with other compact non-luxury cars.
