Some 112,000 Honda Ridgeline pickup trucks are now under recall thanks to an issue with corrosion that could lead to a fuel leak.

Affected vehicles include model-year 2006-14 Ridgeline pickup trucks that were sold or registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin.

An accumulation of road salt in these states may cause the frame mounting surface — where the fuel tank mounting bands are attached — to corrode and possibly detach the fuel tank, potentially resulting in a fuel leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.

To resolve the issue, dealers will inspect and repair the rear frame, as necessary, for free; Honda also noted that depending on the extent of the corrosion, it may offer to repurchase the truck. The automaker will begin notifying owners Aug. 1, but those with further questions in the meantime can call Honda at 888-234-2138, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
