Affected vehicles from the Blue Oval brand include approximately 115,000 model-year 2021-22 Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs. The issue stems from rear brake linings that may have been manufactured incorrectly; in certain situations, the driver thus may have to apply more brake-pedal force than usual, and the distance required to stop the vehicle may be extended, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford does not yet have a fix for the problem, but owners will be notified starting Jan. 10, 2022. Those with further questions can call the automaker at 866-436-7332, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
