Affected vehicles include model-year 2014-16 Cherokees equipped with a power liftgate. An electrical short within the power liftgate module may lead to a fire with the ignition on or off, increasing the risk of injury to vehicle occupants and bystanders, as well as damage to property.
At this time, a remedy is under development, and owners are advised to park their SUV outside and away from structures until the repair is complete. This recall supersedes recalls issued in 2015 and 2017, so vehicles repaired under those will also need to have the new repair performed. Jeep parent automaker Stellantis will begin notifying owners June 30, but those with further questions in the meantime can contact Stellantis at 800-853-1403 (the number for this recall is 49A), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
