Volkswagen’s luxury brand Audi and ultraluxury brand Bentley have issued two recalls related to the same issue, a software malfunction resulting in a blank display for legally mandated backup cameras. The issue involves more than 173,000 vehicles and most nameplates in Audi’s U.S. lineup.
Bentley’s recall is limited to most model-year 2021-22 Bentayga SUVs sold in the U.S. Affected Audi models include model-year 2021 A4/S4, A6/S6/RS 6 Avant and A8/S8 sedans and wagons; A5/S5/RS 5 and A7/S7/RS 7 hatchbacks; E-Tron electric vehicles; Q5/SQ5, Q7/SQ7 and Q8/SQ8 SUVs; model-year 2021-22 RS Q8 SUVs; and model-year 2022 E-Tron GT EVs. An issue with the software is causing a blank or black screen to be displayed rather than a rearview camera image when the vehicle is in Reverse, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will update the infotainment software for free. Owners will receive letters notifying them of the safety risk beginning Dec. 2. Those with further questions can contact Audi at 800-253-2834, Bentley at 800-877-6923, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
