2014-2016 Ford Fiesta and Fusion, Lincoln MKZ: Recall Alert
Vehicles Affected: Approximately 248,900 model-year 2014-15 Ford Fiesta hatchbacks and sedans, and model-year 2014-16 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ sedans
The Problem: The latch pawl spring-tab design is susceptible to cracking and failure in areas with high ambient temperatures. A door latch with a fractured pawl spring tab typically results in a “door will not close” condition. If the owner is able to latch the door after repeated attempts, there’s potential for the door to unlatch while driving, increasing the risk of injury.
Lincoln manufacturer Ford said affected cars are or have been previously registered in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Washington and federal territories. It also said it is not aware of any related reports of accidents or injury.
The Fix: Dealers will remove and replace the side door latches for free.
What Owners Should Do: Ford did not immediately announce an owner-notification schedule. Owners can call the automaker at 800-392-3673, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
