Vehicles Affected: Approximately 32,000 model-year 2016-17 Toyota Tacoma pickup trucks equipped with the 4.0-liter V-6 gas engine.
The Problem: The V-6 engine crankshaft timing rotor may have been produced with an excessive amount of the anti-corrosion coating. This can cause the crank position sensor to malfunction, triggering the malfunction indicator light, rough running, misfiring or in some cases stalling and increasing the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Toyota dealers will replace the crank position sensor free of charge.
What Owners Should Do: Toyota will begin contacting owners in mid-July. Owners can call Toyota at 800-331-4331, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov to check their vehicle identification number and learn more. Owners also can visit the Toyota recall site and enter their VIN.
