CARS.COM — The just-announced 2016 Subaru Crosstrek Special Edition won’t arrive in dealerships until late spring, but it would make a great Valentine’s Day gift for your Subaru-loving sweetheart. This limited 1,500-unit run of the popular subcompact SUV makes liberal use of the color red, inside and out, and would pair nicely with that heart-shaped box of chocolates and bottle of Bordeaux.
Debuting at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show, the Crosstrek Special Edition is based on the 2.0i Premium trim of the regular version — only redder. The exterior sports Pure Red paint with matching foldable mirrors. Inside are red accent stitching on the leather-wrapped gearshift, steering wheel and door panels, along with an exclusive interior dash trim with a red inlay. Moreover, the front floor area and storage space below the climate controls feature red ambient interior lighting.
This edition comes with the Crosstrek’s All-Weather Package, which includes heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors and de-icing windshield wipers; a power moonroof; keyless entry; push-button start; blind spot detection; rear cross-traffic alert; lane change assist; and a backup camera. The vehicle also gets a standard 6.2-inch multimedia touch-screen, Bluetooth connectivity and smartphone integration.
The Special Edition uses the Crosstrek’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 148 horsepower and 145 pounds-feet of torque; it’s mated to a six-speed continuously variable automatic transmission. Fuel economy is 26/34/29 mpg city/highway/combined.
Subaru has not yet announced pricing for the Crosstrek Special Edition. The 2.0i Premium version of the regular Crosstrek starts at $23,245, while the 2.0i Limited version, which comes with the CVT, starts at $25,945 (both prices include an $850 destination charge).
Cars.com will bring you more coverage of this and other models unveiled at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show, live from the exhibit floor, starting Thursday.
