Without question, the Rodney Dangerfield of the pickup truck world is the three-quarter-ton pickup. Half-ton pickups are the biggest sellers for truckmakers, while the one-ton monsters are the super heroes. The three-quarter-ton class gets little, if any, respect. That's why our last two Challenges focused on three-quarter-ton pickups, testing base workhorse pickups and their well-dressed and optioned counterparts. Competitors for both contests were the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, 2017 Ford Super Duty F-250, 2017 Nissan Titan XD and 2017 Ram 2500.
For the 2017 3/4-Ton Work Truck Challenge, we tested V-8, regular-cab, long-bed work trucks. All were 4x2s except the Nissan, because the manufacturer could only provide a 4×4. Here's how they finished, with links to their photo galleries.
In the 2017 3/4-Ton Premium Truck Challenge, we tested the other half of the world: top-of-the-line crew-cab, 4×4, short-bed, turbo-diesel pickups. Here is their finishing order and links to their photo galleries.
- Ford F-250 King Ranch
- Chevrolet 2500 LTZ Midnight Edition
- Ram 2500 Laramie Longhorn
- Nissan Titan XD Platinum Reserve
