CARS.COM — After making its global bow in June in South Korea, the Genesis G80 will hit dealerships this month at a starting price of $42,350, including a $950 destination charge. The G80 (neé Hyundai Genesis) is the second model in the Korean automaker’s burgeoning Genesis luxury brand following its flagship sedan, the G90 (neé Equus).

The G80 comes in three trim levels; the base model comes with a 3.8-liter V-6 engine and rear-wheel drive. For an extra $2,500, buyers can upgrade to the G80 3.8 with all-wheel drive. The range-topping G80 5.0 starts at $55,500 and comes with a 5.0-liter V-8 that powers the rear wheels; there is no all-wheel-drive option for the 5.0. An eight-speed automatic is the sole transmission.

Standard safety and convenience features include auto emergency braking, blind spot detection, cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, a stop-start feature, an electronic parking brake and an 8-inch touch-screen multimedia display with a backup camera.

The 3.8-liter versions offer optional Premium and Ultimate packages that add a panoramic sunroof, full-color head-up display and a premium 17-speaker Lexicon stereo. The 5.0 adds 19-inch wheels, quad exhaust tips and illuminated door sill plates. All Genesis models will also launch with the brand’s customer-service suite that offers conveniences like three years or 36,000 miles of complimentary scheduled maintenance and valet services, and three years of free connected services, satellite traffic and data, map updates and roadside assistance.

The G80 is competitively priced against other luxury sedans. The 2017 Cadillac CTS, for example, starts around $46,000, the 2016 BMW 5-Series and Lexus GS 350 both at more than $50,000, and the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class at more than $52,000. The outgoing 2016 Hyundai Genesis, meanwhile, starts around $39,000.

Performance and fuel-economy specs have not yet been released. Check back closer to launch for more info.
