CARS.COM — The eagerly awaited 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF will launch with the Launch Edition, a 1,000-car limited run of the new “retractable fastback” that debuted at the 2016 New York International Auto Show. The Launch Edition starts at $34,685, including an $835 destination charge, and comes with model-exclusive content.
The $34,685 price is for the six-speed manual transmission; an automatic transmission adds $1,075 more. The price is steep compared with the regular 2016 MX-5 Miata’s starting price of $25,750, and the $30,900 starting price of the Grand Touring trim; the Launch Edition is based on the 2017 RF’s Grand Touring version. All prices include destination.
The RF comes with a Machine Gray Metallic paintjob, along with a Launch Edition-exclusive Auburn (red) Nappa leather interior and hand-painted black roof panel. The built-to-order Launch Edition also comes with bespoke doorsill plates, as well as advanced keyless entry that’s standard for automatics and optional for manuals.
Customers who received an emailed invitation are being offered an exclusive opportunity today to preorder one of the 1,000 units of the Launch Edition with a $500 deposit. Mazda said deliveries will begin in February 2017 and continue through the spring. Buyers will also receive a custom-designed serialized Tourneau watch with each purchase to count down the time until their car arrives.
