Kia will make just 500 of the Stinger GT Atlantica, which has added touches from Europe and South Korea in a nod to the international development of the Stinger. The special U.S. model builds on the top-trim all-wheel-drive Stinger GT2 and is mostly about a unique appearance and trim, but Kia also has added some exclusive and desirable technology features not yet seen on lesser Stingers.
The most obvious difference is a super-chill Deep Chroma Blue metallic paint job from Europe that you can’t get on U.S. Stingers. Also from the European model is an upscale cabin with Nappa leather in special Espresso Brown and a “suede-type” headliner in black. The big Stinger badge that replaces the standard Kia logo on the hatchback lid is derived from the Korea-spec Stinger, and the special 19-inch wheels are Europe-spec. Special Stinger Atlantica numbered badges grace the front fenders and the cabin’s center console.

But this special Stinger’s appeal isn’t just skin-deep. The GT Atlantica also gets an exclusive surround-view camera. As a city-dweller, I’d consider it just for that, given what I found was somewhat limited visibility to the rear corners, not to mention not wanting to skin the good-looking front air splitter or wheels. But it also gets a wireless phone charger, now useful for the newest iPhones as well as Android phones. And since, unlike many sports sedans, it has room for adult rear passengers, they might appreciate the heated outboard seats in the back.
The quick special model is part of the big push Kia is putting behind its new high-performance hatchback. That also has included a big-budget Super Bowl ad (see it here) featuring Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and racing legend Emerson Fittipaldi using the Stinger like Dr. Who’s TARDIS time machine. The ad worked: It triggered more added traffic on Cars.com than any other automaker’s ad in the game.
The 2019 Kia Stinger GT Atlantica will go on sale in the summer. Pricing has not been announced, but expect a premium over the GT2 with all-wheel drive, which for 2018 starts at $52,300, including a $900 destination charge.
