Mazda is expanding the lineup of its tiny CX-30 with a peppy new engine, and the automaker just released pricing that puts the subcompact SUV into premium territory. The 2021 CX-30 is now available with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four cylinder, expected to go on sale by year’s end. It’s good for 250 horsepower and 320 pounds-feet of torque (with premium fuel), and it starts at $31,000 (all prices include destination). That puts it at the top of a lineup that starts at $23,000 for the base model with front-wheel drive.

The CX-30 2.5 Turbo model will also get subtle exterior differences versus its less powerful siblings. Those include a“Turbo” badge on the liftgate, black 18-inch wheels, black side mirrors, larger tailpipes and additional exterior colors.

The rest of the lineup gets power from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that makes 186 hp and 186 pounds-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic is the sole transmission, and all trims are available with front- or all-wheel drive. The Turbo model, which uses the six-speed automatic, gets standard AWD.

Other standards across the CX-30 lineup include an 8.8-inch multimedia display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning with lane-keeping assist.

The Turbo trim is available with the Premium Package ($2,400 over the base model, or $33,400 total) and that adds extras like a Bose 12-speaker audio system, heated steering wheel, leather seats, a power liftgate, head-up display, traffic sign recognition system, an adaptive front lighting system and navigation.

To top it off, the Turbo trim can also be had with the Premium Plus Package ($1,600 over the Premium Package, or $35,000 in total). It adds driver assistance and safety systems such as reverse automatic emergency braking, the Traffic Jam Assist stop-and-go and lane-centering steering, and a 360-degree camera.
