2024 Jeep Compass Stays the Course, Starts Under $30K

The lower end of Jeep’s lineup is a crowded place right now. The Renegade, Compass and Cherokee SUVs are all sized to appeal to similar buyers, but they’re not priced to. The largest of the three, the Cherokee, is creeping close to $40,000 to start, leaving the Renegade and Compass to fight over the (barely) sub-$30,000 market. For the 2024 model year, Compass pricing now starts at $29,995 (all prices include $1,595 for delivery).

What’s New?

Having come off a refresh for 2022 and receiving a new engine for 2023, the Compass is little changed for 2024. Updates are limited to a new grille and wheel designs, and the Trailhawk trim gets new all-terrain tires.

Standard and Optional Safety Features

Even for $29,995, the entry-level Compass keeps itself and occupants safe with a fair battery of active-safety features. Standard equipment includes forward collision warning with cyclist and pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure steering assist, blind spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert. The Limited and Trailhawk trim levels get standard front and rear parking sensors, and option packages available on all variants except the base Sport add a 360-degree camera system, automated parking and adaptive cruise control. Jeep’s Active Driving Assist system, which offers hands-free driving on certain freeways, is available on the Limited and Trailhawk.

Powertrain and Fuel Economy

Jeep offers the Compass with a single powertrain: A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine makes 200 horsepower and 221 pounds-feet of torque and is coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels. The EPA rates the Compass at 24/32/27 mpg city/highway/combined.

Pricing and Availability

The 2024 Jeep Compass is on sale now. Full line pricing is as follows:

  • Sport: $29,995
  • Latitude: $34,265
  • Latitude Lux: $35,990
  • Limited: $37,840
  • Trailhawk: $37,990

Trim Levels

In addition to its standard safety features, the Sport includes 17-inch aluminum wheels, cloth seats, a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and six speakers.

The Latitude trim adds automatic high beams, as well as vinyl seats with cloth inserts, synthetic leather on the steering wheel, proximity keyless entry and keyless start. Moving up to the Latitude Lux builds on that with 18-inch wheels, synthetic leather seats, heated front seats and steering wheel, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat.

The Limited is identifiable by its black roof, and it gets a windshield-wiper de-icer, dual-zone climate control and ambient lighting, as well as access to the additional safety equipment. While the Trailhawk is a touch pricier, it doesn’t include all of the Limited’s standard luxury gear; instead, it skips those frills and gets 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, a 1-inch suspension lift, skid plates to protect the underbody, and a unique four-wheel-drive system with a low range.
