2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS Gets New Tech, Luxury Features
The Mercedes-Benz GLS lineup is receiving several updates for the 2024 model year, with the German luxury automaker focused on adding more style, technology and luxury to its top-end, three-row SUV.

Exterior styling embraces an evolutionary approach for 2024 as the GLS gets a larger grille and revised lower front bumper with integrated air intakes. The rear gets new LED taillights with a three-block signature element. These changes are mirrored on the ultra-luxury Maybach GLS600 and performance-oriented AMG GLS63 variants, but each still retains key styling details to set it apart: The Maybach has new optional 23-inch chrome wheels, and the AMG model’s body kit comes with a set of quad exhaust tips.
The interior still seats up to seven passengers, but it benefits from minor improvements. Two leather upholstery options and wood accents are newly available, and a piano-black trim that was previously exclusive to the Maybach is now available for the entire GLS family. The Maybach also gets new diamond-quilted leather seats and ambient lighting that features an animated Mercedes-Maybach logo. Meanwhile, the AMG variant comes with sport seats upholstered in Nappa leather.
Like the smaller 2024 GLE, all GLS models get the latest version of Mercedes’ MBUX multimedia system. The digital instrument cluster can be customized to show three different displays (Classic, Discreet and Sporty), and the off-road mode features a new “transparent hood” feature that uses the surround-view camera system to allow owners to see under the front bumper.
Additionally, Mercedes has made minor tweaks to the GLS’ performance for the new model year. The base GLS450 is powered by a 375-horsepower, turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine (up from 362 hp), while the GLS580 uses a 510-hp, 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 (up from 483 hp). The AMG GLS63 and Maybach GLS600 keep their 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8; it still makes 603 hp in the AMG and 550 hp in the Maybach. A nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard across the lineup.
Mercedes-Benz didn’t reveal pricing information for the 2024 GLS lineup, but it did confirm the SUV will begin making its way to dealerships later in 2023.
