Ford restyled the Expedition for the 2025 model year, with smoother exterior styling, a bolder face, and an overhauled interior packed with the latest infotainment and connectivity features. But with two available wheelbases, two engines and the option for four-wheel drive, which of the 2025 Expedition’s four trim levels should you buy?

Like the pre-refresh Expedition, the updated 2025 model is available in two sizes, the standard wheelbase and the long-wheelbase Max, which adds $3,000 to the sticker (the Tremor is only available with the shorter wheelbase). 4WD is a $3,000 option on the entry-level Active trim and standard on the rest; it also adds the Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package that includes an upgraded radiator, an integrated trailer-brake controller and different rear-end gearing to help get heavy loads moving.

Mechanically, the big three-row SUV is unchanged, with a 400-horsepower, twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine providing 480 pounds-feet of torque in most trim levels. A high-output version generating 440 hp and 510 pounds-feet is standard in the off-road-oriented Tremor and available in the Platinum — but not, oddly enough, in the range-topping King Ranch.

Trim Levels and Pricing

The 2025 Expedition’s simplified lineup consists of just four trim levels versus the 2024 model’s six. It’s on sale now, and full pricing is as follows (all prices include $1,995 destination charge):

  • Active: $63,995
  • Platinum: $76,425
  • Tremor: $83,025
  • King Ranch: $85,650

Active

The base Expedition Active includes a vastly expanded suite of standard gear. Riding on 18-inch wheels, it features LED headlights and taillights, a power-operated split liftgate, Class IV trailer-hitch receiver, and keyless entry and start. The Active is upholstered in cloth but gets power-adjustable front seats, tri-zone climate control with rear controls, power-folding third-row seats, a 24-inch digital instrument panel and a 13.2-inch touchscreen.

Platinum

It’s a big step up to the Platinum’s $76,425 base price, but that premium brings a host of upgrades, including Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free semi-autonomous highway driving tech. On the outside are a panoramic moonroof, power-deployable running boards, rain-sensing wipers and black 20-inch wheels. Inside, the Platinum is upholstered in leather and includes heated and ventilated front seats with massage, heated and power-adjustable second-row captain’s chairs, power-adjustable pedals, a heated steering wheel, a power-sliding first- and second-row center console, 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound and wireless phone charging.

Tremor

The Tremor is aimed at buyers interested in expeditions that leave the pavement behind. It rides a little higher than other Expeditions on upgraded shock absorbers and 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. The Tremor features front tow hooks, fixed running boards, and skid plates and underbody protection for the front axle, transmission and fuel tank. Yellowish-orange accents inside and out help to distinguish it visually, as do its LED foglamps and a trim-specific grille. While it’s priced above the Platinum, the Tremor’s luxury content straddles the space between the Active and the Platinum, including features such as BlueCruise, heated and ventilated front seats (with no massage), and heated second-row seats, but no panoramic moonroof.

King Ranch

Ford has traditionally used tan lower-body trim to identify its King Ranch models, but the automaker goes a step further on the 2025 Expedition, with not only bronze exterior trim, but also bronze 22-inch wheels. The color palette is limited to those hues that don’t look objectionable with bronze wheels, but you’d better like them because there isn’t another factory option. The King Ranch also includes all of the Platinum’s luxury features, plus adaptive shock absorbers, a two-tone leather interior and a 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system.

Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0 is standard on every 2025 Expedition and includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, emergency steering assist, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-centering steering, blind spot monitors with trailer coverage, rear cross-traffic alert with automatic braking, and a driver-attention monitor. When you arrive at your destination, a 360-degree camera system and front and rear parking sensors help maneuver the big Ford into position.
