Honda’s bestselling Civic is refreshed for the 2025 model year, but it’s hard to tell from the outside. Sharp-eyed Civic fans will notice the new wheels, updated grille and front bumper, and darker taillights, but under the hood, a new hybrid powertrain is available that substantially increases the compact sedan and hatchback’s combined fuel economy and makes it the most powerful Civic aside from the high-performance Type R. Honda has already released pricing for the 2025 Civic sedan, and now we know that the hatchback starts at $28,545, just $1,200 more than each respective sedan trim (all prices include $1,095 destination).

Powertrain Specs and MPG

Not all 2025 Civic hatchbacks are hybrids, although Honda expects the hybrid to account for some 40% of Civic sales. The entry-level Civic Sport retains its 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which generates 150 horsepower and 133 pounds-feet of torque. Paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission, the Civic hatchback returns 30/38/34 mpg city/highway/combined, according to Honda (official EPA estimates are not yet available). Every 2025 Civic is front-wheel drive.

The Civic Hybrid features a normally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors putting out a combined 200 hp and 232 pounds-feet of torque. That’s as much horsepower as the Civic Si, but 40 pounds-feet more torque thanks to the electric motors. It, too, uses a CVT. Honda says the Civic hybrid should get 50/45/48 mpg.

Like the hybrid Civic sedan, hybrid hatchbacks benefit from dedicated spring and damper tuning to ensure they maintain the Civic’s expert ride and handling balance. Visually, they are set apart from the base trim level with body-color headlamp trim and front spoiler.

Safety Features and Trim Levels

Honda Sensing is standard on the 2025 Civic hatchback and includes forward collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure steering assist, blind spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert and road-sign recognition.

Honda skips the sedan’s entry-level LX trim and goes straight to the Sport for the hatchback. The Civic hatchback Sport rides on black 18-inch wheels and features LED headlights, heated side mirrors, keyless entry and starting, remote start and adaptive cruise with low-speed follow. Inside, you’ll find cloth upholstery, automatic climate control, red ambient lighting, eight speakers, and a 7-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In addition to the more powerful and efficient powertrain, the Sport Hybrid includes a moonroof, heated front seats and dual-zone automatic climate control.

At the top of the lineup, the Sport Touring rides on machine-finished 18-inch wheels and features parking sensors, leather seating, a larger 9-inch touchscreen with Google Built-In, wireless smartphone charging and a 12-speaker Bose sound system.
