Competes with: Hyundai Kona Electric, Kia Niro EV, Mini Countryman SE, Toyota C-HR

Looks like: The new Toyota C-HR is now Subaru’s smallest EV, too

Powertrains: 221-horsepower single electric motor or 338-hp dual electric motors; 74.7-kilowatt-hour battery; front- or all-wheel drive

Hits dealerships: Early 2026

Electric vehicles don’t have multispeed transmissions, but the Toyota/Subaru EV partnership has hit high gear. The 2026 Subaru Uncharted is the third shared product the two automakers have launched in as many months, following the Subaru Solterra/Toyota bZ and Subaru Trailseeker/Toyota bZ Woodland that debuted at the 2025 New York Auto Show.

Finding Its Place

To be sold by Toyota as the C-HR, the Uncharted is a small electric SUV nearly 7 inches shorter than the refreshed Solterra but comes with what Subaru claims is more than 25 cubic feet of cargo volume beneath its dramatically sloped hatch. As we found in our first up-close look at the C-HR, there’s sufficient headroom even in the rear seat for most passengers, and Subaru says legroom back there is comparable to what occupants would find in the Crosstrek.

While the C-HR and Uncharted share sheet metal, the Subaru wears distinct front and rear styling, the former incorporating the automaker’s new six-element EV signature headlights shared with the Solterra and Trailseeker. It also rides on new 18- or 20-inch wheels and sports orange interior accents.

Powertrain Specs and Range

Like the C-HR, the Uncharted draws juice from a 74.7-kilowatt-hour battery. Oddly (given their corporate identities), the Toyota will be exclusively all-wheel drive, while the Subaru will also be available in a single-motor front-drive version. The FWD Uncharted generates 221 horsepower, while the dual-motor AWD variant makes a total of 338 hp. Subaru says the more powerful version can accelerate from 0-60 mph in less than five seconds.

Final range figures are to be announced, but Subaru anticipates a rating of around 290 miles for the AWD Uncharted and more than 300 miles with FWD. Both powertrain options can replenish their batteries from 10% to 80% charge in about 30 minutes on a compatible DC fast charger, according to Subaru.

Trim Levels

The front-drive Uncharted is the entry-level Premium trim level, and the AWD Sport and GT sit above it in the lineup. Standard equipment on the Premium includes heated front seats and mirrors, windshield wiper deicers, a power liftgate and ambient lighting. Also included is a 14-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and dual wireless phone chargers. Two rear-seat passengers can charge their phones simultaneously, but they’ll have to plug into the dual USB-C ports located in the backseat.

The Uncharted Sport adds synthetic leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel and Subaru’s X-Mode drive mode controller. A panoramic moonroof and 20-inch wheels differentiate the range-topping GT trim, as does an available two-tone roof. Inside, the GT features ventilated front seats, heated outboard rear seats and a Harman Kardon sound system.

Which features from Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assistance suite are standard and which are optional on the 2026 Uncharted is mostly yet to be announced. What we do know, however, is that a driver attention monitor is standard and the Sport adds a 360-degree camera system. Forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, front cross-traffic alert, blind spot monitors, lane departure alert, adaptive cruise control, traffic-jam assist and lane change assist will appear somewhere in the configurator.

Release Date and Pricing

The 2026 Subaru Uncharted will go on sale in early 2026. Pricing will be announced closer to the start of sales, but if it is to be competitive, the SUV will have to start somewhere in the low- to mid-$30,000 range.
