279,000 2009-15 Toyota Venzas Recalled for Airbag Issue
For 2021, Toyota brought the Camry-based two-row Venza SUV back to its lineup after five model years off — but if you have a first-generation Venza, there’s a strong possibility it now needs an automaker-issued repair. Toyota is recalling more than 279,000 of the vehicles for damaged wires that may cause airbag sensors to fail.

The issue affects all model years of the original 2009-15 Venza and concerns the supplemental restraint system. The system’s wiring may become damaged with regular use of the driver-side door, which could cause the airbag sensor to become inoperable, preventing the deployment of the side and curtain airbags on the driver’s side and increasing the risk of injury during a crash.
As a fix, dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the driver-side front door wire harness for free. Toyota will begin notifying owners May 31, but if you have further questions, you can call the automaker at 800-331-4331, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
