Toyota is recalling some 280,000 examples of its Tundra pickup truck and Sequoia SUV, as well as the LX 600 SUV from its luxury brand Lexus, for a transmission issue that allows affected vehicles to roll inadvertently.

Affected vehicles include model-year 2022-24 Toyota Tundras and Lexus LX 600s, and model-year 2023-24 Sequoias. Parts of the transmission may not immediately disengage when the vehicle is shifted to Neutral. When the brakes are not applied, engine power can still transfer to the wheels, allowing the vehicle to creep at a low speed on flat surfaces and increasing the risk of a crash.

To resolve the problem, dealers will update the transmission software for free. Owners will be notified by late April, but those with further questions can contact Toyota at 800-331-4331, Lexus at 800-255-3987, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
